France: G7 Summit

NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS, Denver, Colorado- 45th annual gathering of G7 Nations Leaders of United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Italy, with representation  jointly by the European Council and the President of the European Commission, will participates in all discussions as a guest, gathered in French coastal town of Biarritz, Saturday August 25 through Monday August 16. These World powers represent about 50% of the global economy and collective ambition to deal with the world’s major issues.

Saturday French President Emmanuel Macron and United States President Donald Trump had a private lunch before the start of the summit.

The three day summit is taking place against escalating trade war between United States and Republic of China. Global concern over fires ravaging the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. United Kingdom’s impending exit from the European Union. Growing tensions between United States and Islamic Republic of Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

This 2019 G7 Summit, presided over by French President Emmanuel Macron, will focus on fighting in equality of opportunity promoting in particular gender equality, high quality health services and  access to quality education. Reducing environmental inequality by protecting the planet through climate finance, the oceans and a just ecological transition based on preserving biodiversity. Action for peace, terrorism threats, and security threats. Opportunities created by technology and artificial intelligence.  Renewing a more equal partnership with Africa, world’s fastest growing continent. Globalization through more equitable trade, tax, development policies and fair trade.

President Donald Tusk said. it will be a difficult test of unity and solidarity due to deep divisions over a range of issues climate change, trade and appealed for unity.

President Cyril Ramphosa of South Africa arrived in Biarritz on Sunday for the summit.

President Macron met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday in Paris. According to the French government, Foreign Minister Zarif was invited after consulting on Saturday evening with Leaders of other G7 Nations. Minister Zarif flew into Biarritz for the summit on Sunday in an unexpected and dramatic attempt to break a diplomatic deadlocks over Tehran’s disputed nuclear programme.

China’s President Xi Jinping is not among the Leaders invited to the summit. United States President Trump on Friday upped his trade fight with China by raising retaliatory tariffs. Ordering United States companies to consider alternatives to doing business there. China said on Saturday it strongly opposed President Trump’s decision to levy additional tariffs on about $550 billion worth of Chinese goods. China warned the United States of consequences if it did not end its wrong actions.

United States will take over the G7 Presidency from January 01/ 2020.
