NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- Albert Chalamila, Mbeya Regional Commissioner on August 16th, of this year, ceded five acres to agro processors for the construction of fifty small and medium industries. And the said five acres were assigned to the Tanzania Food Processors Association of Women Entrepreneurs (TAFOPA) – the processors of fruits and vegetables.

Consequently, the industrial reserve area will be utilized by Kibowavi Project, an association of fruits and vegetable processors funded by a Swiss organization called Helvetas. Mbeya Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila asserted at the occasion that, as Mbeya inhabitants were pleased to Helvetas for setting aside 1bn/- for setting up industries that would be govern by women and youth agriculturalist of vegetables and fruits to produce quality products.

“We have witnessed the usefulness of Kibowavi Project. That is why we quickly set aside this land for entrepreneurs to advance the region’s economy and that of the nation,” he noted.

The Regional Commissioner was merged by the Chairperson of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), Angelina Ngalula, who thanked both the regional leadership and Helvetas for endorsing the private sector to meet the desires of TPSF entrepreneurs.

“This reserve area will host about 50 agro-processing industries and cold rooms. This means a lot as it will boost the livelihoods of our entrepreneurs,” she announced, pointing out that, entrepreneurs would process and package products for local and foreign markets.

Ngalula affirmed that, the enterprise would boost undivided economy, improve the motive of the private sector and generate jobs. The Chairperson – Ngalula explained, the quantity of business generated by entrepreneurs grew every year. And that small and medium enterprises accounted for one third of Tanzania’s GDP and offered 40% of jobs countrywide.

Suzy Lazier – Chairperson of TAFOPA thanked Mbeya Region for making the project one of its emphases, expanding that their association was considerable about the enactment of the national industrialization agenda.
