NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) and the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), have endorsed an alliance that will expedite joint work, in a road map of constructing a call system for the commercialization of survey stocks in Africa.

The approval will also promote the development of farm productivity through industrialization to address drudgery and contribute to building an enabling climate for agrarian study and development on the continent.

The Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) will be heeded by the heart principles and values of the African Union, particularly the realization of Agenda 2063. In this respect, typical key areas of the consensus include dealing with challenges in the production of quality foundation seed, a key area of attention for AATF that is already working with the continent’s small and medium seed enterprises to alleviate production of climate certified seed.

The two organizations will also concentrate on bolstering seed credential and variation discharge policies and processes including the development of the private sector, licensing of new agricultural technologies, and technology stewardship for sustainable use of agricultural innovations and products.

The MOU, ratified by Dr. Denis T. Kyetere – Executive Director of the AATF and Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki – Chief Executive Officer. AUDA-NEPAD, will guarantee that both institutions stipulate flagship programs from the major tracts of cooperation to effectively accomplish the calculated purposes.

Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, welcomed the collaboration saying, it would contribute to expediting Africa’s farming transformation.

“As articulated in Agenda 2063, Africa’s sustained growth, competitiveness and economic transformation require sustained investment in new technologies and continuous innovation in areas such as agriculture, clean energy, education and health. This agreement will help contribute to this goal,” said Dr. Mayaki.

Dr. Denis Kyetere announced the affiliation, gives a chance for the smallholder growers to profit from creative and value-added agrarian technologies.

“With the smallholder farmer at the center of decision making, AATF emphasizes the need to get innovations to farmers rapidly and effectively to optimize benefits,” stated Dr. Kyetere, adding that the agreement would also facilitate replication of mechanization business models in more African countries as part of transformative agriculture development.

AATF is an African-led not for profit organization that is operating towards agricultural modification to handle food and nutrition security and produce health and wealth for smallholder agriculturist through admission and delivery of innovative and fitting agricultural technologies. AATF believes that, farmers in Africa will become globally recreational through use of the useful technology,

optimal agricultural practices, strategic product value addition and improved access to productive markets within and outside Africa.

In excursus, AUDA-NEPAD is the development agency of the African Union, coordinating and fulfilling priority regional and continental development projects to promote regional integration towards the accelerated realization of Agenda 2063 –Africa’s vision and action plan. It has the mandate to strengthen the capacity of Member States and regional bodies.
