Hospitals in Freetown brooches as cessations from a Fuel Tanker Explosion climbs to over 100

NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- In hospitals, medics are inconvenienced they are fast trotting out of medical supplies, as swarms of worried family members Freetown at the gates, scanning lists and questioning passers-by to find out if their loved ones are inside the makeshift burns wards.
On November 07th, 2021 last night; the death toll ensuing the explosion of a fuel tanker stretched outto101, while at least 88people are still being doctored in hospitals across the city. Healthcare staffers asserted, they need more painkillers, IV fluids, and antibiotics. One medic, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said there were not enough staff or supplies to handle the cases, which means “more will die” who might have been saved?
The explosion took place on Friday night after a speeding truck banged with a fuel tanker making a turn. When fuel started to emit from the tanker, dozens of people scurried towards it, restoring containers that wished to use or sell.
Witnesses explained, the driver of the tanker got out of the vehicle, advising people to trudge off because it was hazardous. As the road stayed obstructed and traffic built up, one witness confessed, he understood the spark came from a motorbike driver’s exhaust pipe.
At a meeting held by Sierra Leone’s on Sunday afternoon, a Ministry of Health and Sanitation official told that, only six of the dozens of people who died on the night were recognized.
Along with how the burials will be conducted, they discussed in if families should be authorized to accompany the burial and whether Sierra Leone can collect samples from the bodies or do DNA testing to confirm the dead.
Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio cut short a visit to the UK, where he was attending the Cop26 climate conference, saying he would “lead our nation in mourning, visit the wounded and burned in hospitals, and do all we can do as a nation to support victims and their families”.
European Foreign Policy Chief–Joseph Borrell was amongst those to deliver condolences, tweeting that the EU “stands in solidarity with the people and the Government of Sierra Leone”.
