NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Accra Ghana- Africa is experiencing a surge in data center developments, with South Africa taking the lead in terms of investments. Other countries such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya are also making significant strides in this sector, positioning the region as an emerging hotspot for data center infrastructure. This is according to a report by Research and Markets.

South Africa has emerged as a major player in the data center market, attracting substantial investments. This growth is driven by factors such as increasing digitalization, improved connectivity, and the need for robust data storage and processing capabilities. The country’s strategic location and favorable business environment have made it an attractive destination for data center investments.

Furthermore, countries like Nigeria, Egypt, and Kenya are witnessing rapid growth in their data center sectors. These nations are embracing digital transformation and investing in infrastructure to support their growing economies. While still in the early stages of development, other locations in Africa, including Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Morocco, and more, are poised to experience significant growth in the coming years.

Investments in the electrical infrastructure segment of the data center market are on the rise, fueled by frequent power outages in various locations across the region. To address challenges related to water scarcity, air-based cooling solutions are gaining traction in the mechanical infrastructure segment. The general construction segment consists of a mix of regional and global contractors and subcontractors, contributing to the overall growth of the data center industry in Africa.

Several trends are shaping the data center landscape in Africa. The growth of smart city developments, the adoption of artificial intelligence, the migration from on-premises to colocation facilities, the deployment of edge data centers and 5G networks, among other factors, are driving the market forward.

As Africa continues to embrace digital transformation and harness the potential of data-driven technologies, the demand for robust and reliable data center infrastructure is expected to soar. With favorable market conditions and increasing investments, Africa is poised to become a significant player in the global data center industry.
