Dangote and Partners Invest $1 Billion: In Sugar Production in Nigeria
By Richard Adorsu- NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Accra Ghana- Nigerian billionaires Abdul Samad Rabiu and Aliko Dangote, along with Greek investor John Coumantaros, have committed a total of $1 billion in investments to sugar production. The investments were made as part of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP), a 10-year roadmap approved in 2012 with the goal of helping Nigeria achieve self-sufficiency in sugar production. According to Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) Zach Adedeji, the investments came from Dangote Sugar, BUA Foods, and Flour Mills of Nigeria, three indigenous firms involved in sugar plantations and processing.
