NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Freetown, Sierra Leone– This all-important training was carried out at Santor, in the Greater Accra region, to observe the 2023 International Day of Rural Women. Chief Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe – Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN said the training is a laudable venture and a vital one in the aspect of the rural women who are playing very important aspects in the farming sector toward providing food security; therefore, there is a necessity to empower them in a bid to embrace Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs) in farming activities to help them benefit from their sweat.

“We brought in some agricultural extension officers who will follow up with the women to ensure they are practicing what they learned,” she clarified.

“The impact of practicing and learning new skills and propagate their knowledge to others in their communities.

A key focus was on utilizing limited farmland more efficiently. “With farmlands getting smaller, the question how to increase yields on the land. This crucial training will help women navigate to new ways of farming to improve what they already do,” Wiafe justified.

The Operations Manager/Agronomist at Defarmercist Ghana Alex Afari urged the growers to plant the right way; adding that they should furthermore, the drive to seek expert advice encourages them to take the yield of the needed help from their farming investment.

“If you have access to irrigation, you can produce year-round and make more money in the dry season,” Alex Afari noted.

The training sought to address the low yields encountered by many female farmers due to a lack of access to modern techniques.

The International Day for Rural Women acknowledges the crucial role recreated by rural women in providing food security and sustainable
development globally.
