International Standards Organization: Named African as President

NEW AFRICA DAILY  NEWS, Freetown, Sierra Leone- Kenyan born, Eddy Njoroge, was designated to become the President of the International Standards Organization. Njoroge shall commence his role as President on a two term tenure, starting on January 2020 to December 2022.

At some point when Kenyan products have been interdicted from accessing Western markets over a state of not meeting a desirable condition to conform to European standards.

This is the first time, in more than 70 years and African will be heading the International Standards Organization.

Founded on 23^rd February 1947, the organization is a global network of the world’s leading standards. It popularizes worldwide proprietary, industrial and commercial standards. 150 national standards bodies are present in 164 different countries across the globe.

ISO standards reduce technical barriers to trade, lower production costs and allow local companies to access global markets due to opportunities for economies of scale.

Njoroge being a board member at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), gears to ease access to standards for developing countries. Coming at a time when local products have been barred from accessing western markets over failure to conform to European standards, his appointment is expected to go a long way in addressing the barriers.
