NEW AFRICA DAILY NEWS (NADN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- Kenya continues to expand its export market for avocado with South Korea being the new entrant.
Maina guaranteed at the meeting, the Korean business constituency is ready to subsidize in Kenya. And that Kenya is available and safe for business, and it is an excellent venture objective.
Kenya Health Plant Health Inspectorate Service Managing Director – Theophilus Mutui, let out, the nation has brought a new demand for avocado, in South Korea. He communicated during a correspondents insight workshop programme coordinated by the Market Access Upgrade Program Kenya at Kephis headquarters. Mutui meant,
South Korea retains already; bestowed Kenya entry to the market for unripe bananas and broccoli.
“In the meeting, it was agreed that we are going to fast track the issue for pest risk analyses for avocados and possibly by February-March next year, Kenya will be able to export avocados to South Korea,” he let out.
“As you are aware, the European Union is our major market for flowers, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Presently, we are toiling to open up other markets for our produce. Just recently, we were in South Korea where we discussed exports of our products to the Asian nation. This includes crops such as avocado,” he explained.
Kenya’s major exports to South Korea in the 2020 production year accounted for 80.4% of the full exports of coffee and copper waste. Additional export products comprised articles of apparel and clothing accessories, tobacco, and cut flowers, that accounted for the additional share of 14%.
The Sh400 million Market Access Upgrade Kenya programme aims to help county to enhance market access of agro-food products to the EU and regional and local markets. And it’s a programme funded by the European Union and carried out by United Nations Industrial Development Organization in alliance with the National government, county governments and private sector.
